Zotero citation management: Export References

Zotero is a free citation manager. This page offers information that will help you create and build a Zotero library, create and use groups to collaborate, and use Zotero to add properly formatted citations to your papers.

Exporting References

Some times you want to export the metadata of your references to share or use in another tool (e.g. Covidence). Below are the steps.

  1. Select references from a Zotero folder
  2. Right click
  3. Select "Export Items...: from the menu
  4. In popup window, select RIS as Format
  5. Save the .RIS file

RIS is a universal machine-readable format. Also, you can even open RIS files in Notepad (Windows), TextEdit (OiS) or similar programs to review the content.
